    Bulk ammo

Any you guys buy bulk ammo? Looking at joining a league and just need inexpensive ammo to shoot. Nothing real fancy, just flying lead.

Is bulk typically more dirty to shoot? Any on-line sites you can send me to for purchasing?

    Thanks for your help!

First off, welcome to the forum.

Being dirtier to shoot is going to vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.

For places that sell bulk ammo do a google search for "bulk ammo" it will give you plenty of sites to check.

I've bought a lot of ammo by the case from Ammoman.com. Prices are good, and if you purchase 5 boxes or more (not too many items are sold by the box there) then shipping is free. Other places which have ammo by the case are Buyammo.com, and some on ammunitiontogo.com

For regular retail, go to Wal-Mart and pickup WWB (Winchester USA FMJ, generally referred to as Winchester White Box), Blazer FMJ or Remington UMC FMJ. That is about the least expensive you are going to find “off the shelf”.

If you are not too concerned with factory ammo you can try some of the local gun shows. They usually have one or two tables selling full power reloads. Some of this is good stuff, some isn’t. The quality really depends on who you are getting it from and the only way to tell is to try it.

Your third option is to buy on-line from somebody like Ammunition to Go (Ammo, Ammunition, Rifle Ammunition, 9mm Ammo, Military Surplus), Ammoman (https://www.ammoman.com), Georgia Arms (Georgia Arms), etc…

Most people seem to recommend the Wal-Mart route. I have gone this way myself and been happy. I have also, however, gotten some very good deals for reloads at the local gun show, you just need to be careful when going this route.

It's been years since I've bought bulk ammo actually. Used to get 7.62x39 at gun shows back when. Then I've bought cases of .223 and 45acp from a local everything store when I was doing jobs for a contractor out of town. Those were the days I guess, but buying in bulk will still save you some serious money these days...it's just these days, it so darned expensive anyway.

If you are joining the league you may end up going through a lot of ammo. You may want to consider getting into reloading. Once you have your equipment you can save quite a bit by reloading. Check with the other league members and see if anyone reloads and ask them to teach you and if they have any equipment they want to sell. Buying your supplies (bullets, powder, and primers) in bulk will also save you some money. It does cost some money to start, but it's an investment that will pay for itself pretty quickly if you plan to do a lot of shooting.

Be careful buying bulk, you never know what you are going to get. The people making the bulk ammo use the cheapest stuff they can get their hands on.

Check out the Reloading sub-forum in the ammo forum, good info there and a lot of experience there.
