Had an encounter with the mall ninjas at a local gunshop

I had to share. I saw a group of guys (late 20's) walk into one of my local gun shops this weekend. It all started when they shouted in the middle of the crowded shop "Are you a class III dealer?".

I wanted to see where this was going so I listened. Next they asked one of the employees if they had any desert eagles in stock. The employee took them to the case and started pulling out a couple, first he pulled out a baby eagle and the group started laughing at the top of their lungs about how small it was. When he pulled out the full-size .50 they were all in awe (although I did hear one guy say his arm hurt from trying to hold the DE up). Then came the point where they wanted to swing it wildly around the room sweeping other customers and the store employee like they were reenacting their mall ninja practice tactics.

The next question out of the guys was do you carry the .338 Lapua. The employee replied that they didn't. Obviously the guys were dissapointed and thought that this gun shop wasn't tacticool enough for them. During their disappointment, their ring leader gets a call from his mommy as he scrambles to make up an excuse for where he's at. While the rest of the group says "Come on, let's go see if they have any body armor or silencers." They walked out with nothing.

I am in no way saying that people don't have interests in these guns, but the way the whole conversation went and their interests just brought me flashbacks of the mall ninja saga.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

Nice, great gun shop. My local Fun Shop would have tossed them out on their butts the second they started sweeping the store, with any weapon even one they themselves have made sure was not loaded. They value their customers too much to allow that kind of stuff to go on.
Same thing on the range, they monitor the range cameras, just point your gun anywhere but down range when your loading it. They will come out and warn you once. Second time they will escort you to the door.

I don't prefer this gun shop at all. The only reason I go in there is because their inventory is huge. If I'm looking for a specific gun to order from another shop, I can find it there and check it out. Their guns are usually priced at about $100 over MSRP. There were at least 60 people in this shop and I wish they were escorted out. I kept my distance, but I couldn't help but laugh.

I think you're right, thank god. Though it does make a case for the "off topic HUMOR" section.

Stories like the OPs though do make me glad to do most of my actual shopping at mil facilities. Gun shows are always fun though...

Actually, if I remember right, Gecko once visited here. But I am going to have to relie on the mods to confirm that rumor.
I will support gun control when you can guarantee all guns are removed from this planet. That includes military and law enforcement. When you can accomplish that, then I will be the last person to lay down my gun. Then I will carry the weapon that replaces the gun.

Personally I don't see anything bad with the story. If anything it shows the huge amount of misinformation and stupidity out there that we must address.

I recently had a similar Desert Eagle experience. About 2 weeks ago I went to the local quick lube place for an oil change. I was wearing my no so subtle NRA cap and one of the guys in the shop started to talk guns. he said he was saving his money to buy a Desert Eagle in .50 cal for self-defense. I gently explained that for SD purposes that weapon was a tad too much for the uninitiated. He admitted that other than going to the range with buddies a couple of times, he had no firearms experience so I explained to him about the weight of the gun being a factor for an emergency plus that there where other things to consider like ammo cost, overpenetration and its legal consequences plus the cost of the firearm itself and that maybe instead he should be looking for something more "normal" and get training. He was very receptive and appreciative but since I did not want him to leave him feel like a fool I told him that if later on he wanted a gun for the "cool" factor, to check the S&W Backpacker because it was designed as a defensive weapin against Grizzly Bears in Alaska and places like that and that it was much cooler than a gangsta-wannabe Desert Eagle.

Its a big tent. I am not sure what I would do. I cringe at some of the things that I see other gun owners say and do. I am sure I have unknowingly upset other gun owners. We cannot be gun snobs. Even a so called "Mall Ninja" has a Second Amendment Right and just as importantly has a Constitutional Right to vote. We need every vote we can get.

So how do we rein in our brethren without alienating them? I don't feel that making fun of them is the right thing to do.

The mere fact that they wanted to see a "Desert Eag
le" full size tells me all I need to know about such clowns.

The bad thing is there are plenty of idiots like that out there, many of them CC'ing and OC'ing along with us. They give us a bad wrap.

I'm 57 years old and don't much care about Dessert Eagles and Class III.

But when I was 20, I would have been all over this stuff.

They're young enough to be infatuated with the "cool" factor of this kind of weaponry.

No big deal. I don't think anything they did would bother me except the sweeping of people with the guns.

All they need is a lesson on gun safety and the proper attitudes need to carry a firearm.

Actually, a Desert Eagle is pretty cool.
