German Luger with Rifle Stock attachment?

Ok, I've seen (probably on Shooting USA or another one of the Outdoor Channel's Wed night shows) a segment showing antique old WW firearms - one featured a German Luger that had a feature on the bottom of the grip where a matching stock would be attached - effectively making it a very short carbine.

I've posted on another forum an idea involving the S&W's M&P line of pistols having 3 choices of a backstrap for the grip - allowing you to choose the best fit for your size hand - small, medium or large.

My idea was / is to take a rifle stock - fit it to accept one of the grip options you don't use - screw it (or attach somehow) to the rifle stock to accomplish the same thing done with the old German Luger.

The other forum I posted on received comments about this being illegal and the ATF coming after me for even suggesting it. I don't think I have anything to worry about whatsoever and still think this is a good idea & if anyone (S&W perhaps) offers this one day - I'd appreciate either royalties or a gift of one of them or something from it. Probably wouldn't happen since I posted so publicly about it now.

Anyway, what do you think about this idea?

Well, it's not illegal to suggest it any more than it would be illegal to suggest that somebody that you don't like go jump off a bridge.

If you didn't fill out a form 1 first, you would be creating an illegal short barreled rifle. Personally, I'm not a big fan of knowingly committing federal felonies.

The Lugers with buttstocks are exempted under Curio & Relics.

Didn't know that about the Luger exemption. Thanks for posting.

Well, in light of this - ya think S&W could offer it somehow as an accessory? I bet this could figure out a legal way to do it if they wanted to bad enough...

The only legal way to do it (besides, as previously mentioned, filling out a form 1, getting CLEO approval, sending $200 to BATFE, and waiting for them to return your stamp) would be to figure out a way to make the M&P work with a 16" barrel.

For the most part, a buttstock on a pistol with a barrel less than 16" is considered a class-3 weapon, right up there with machine guns and short-barreled shotguns.

Talk about reaching out and touching someone,That's one way to gauge the 20 foot rule if you can touch em with your barrel they are 20 feet away

They won't, simply for PR reasons. Glocks are so prolific that those gadgets trickle out,now and then, but other weapons- not likely. The only other "goodie" is the classic: Beretta 93R, that had a retrofit offered by someone in the 80s,IIRC.

The Lugers [and other such as manufactured factory offerings] with buttstocks are exempted [by grandfathering] under Curio & Relics.
