Im a little confused on how to sell a firearm legally. Im located in MN - I often see firearms listed in the local classifieds & I was considering posting a .22 that I no longer have a use for..
So If I were to out out an ad in the local paper, would this be legal?

Would it be legal if I decide to give it to a relative or friend - as long as they're over 21yrs old & they're a law abiding citizen?
You would have to check into the Minnesota state laws.
Here in Nevada it's easy, sell it, take the money, give the gun and make a receipt for the both of you. A piece of cake.

Yeah, a lot of it depends on state law. Some of the People's Republik's require it to go through an FFL and you honestly might just be better off selling it to a store if that's the case unless it's particularly valuable or you just have the time to deal with it.
In states where that's not required, like Texas, you just go give them the gun, they give you the money, and that's it.

I'm here in NC and just had the same quesiton a friend of mine has 357 for 150.00. He got it from his counsin and he really does not know much about guns so I am excited to see what it is.

Gunner, probably with a pistol permit , you can sell it. Not sure with your state. Tell ya what , find out , then fill out the permit to me, i will dispose of said gun(with legal paperwork of course) .

Doubt if a local paper ad itself illegal anywhere - but one prob' with that is how much contact info you include. Meaning - will some doofus see you as an easy mark to come steal said gun!
Always check the required methods for your own state but in many cases ftf deals in state are OK. Even if that is the case tho I reckon you have to know whether your buyer is OK and not felonious - plus wise to have paperwork for each party - bill of sale and receipt etc.
Much of that stuff really is CYA manouvers
