I'm a little confused as to the context: What's the intended use, home protection, putting meat on the table, concealed carry? It definitely would change my answer. I voted revolver as something like a 4" GP-100 could function for home defense, carry weapon (maybe a bit heavy and bulky though) and hunting in extreme need.

If we're talking about putting food on the table or home defense without the need for carry, I'd say a 12 gauge pump with different choke tubes and loads.

If I didn't own any guns I would obviously be a total novice so for CCW the KISS theory is esential. Wheel gun what else.

    I voted for a shotgun.
    It was my first.

I also voted for a wheelie. A .357 can be used for multiple purposes and with various loads. And it is simple to operate and maintain.

A shotgun first, as it's a multi-purpose weapon. But you KNOW what I REALLY would carry <snickering> hehehehe

Please! I bet it takes you a half hour just to decide what holster you're wearing each day, much less which gun!

Cool, thanks. Just didn't know if you had a specific application in mind. I'd probably still opt for a 4" .357 as a general all purpose gun. Not the easiest to conceal but I like the ability to handle shotshells, .38spl or full house .357mag loads. Crap, I think I've gotta get a 4" GP-100 now!

    It is an interesting topic

I'd have to start out just like I did 23 years ago with my first firearm purchase: Colt 1911 (it was a Series 80 full-size back then...might go with a Combat Commander today)

Pistol first, if for some reason I couldn't afford it, then a revolver would do. Shotgun next, rifle or carbine after that.

A pistol for CCW (either 9mm or 45 ACP), then go on from there to a shotgun for HD, then an evil black rifle, a 22 rifle, and a 22 pistol, in no particular order.

I've been there........and done that for sure.... kinda like what type of shoes go with the socks
Holsters? oh my.. I have a huge box of em.. and I do go thru it to see what is lurking in there.. .........LMAO........
I think I'd have bought one of those little short barreled Ithaca stake-outs in 20 ga..........or a Mossberg and make it a 12 to14 incher........bet it would make for a real "crowd pleaser" for sure LOL

A bottom eject Ithaca would be pretty sweet . I've got matching Mossberg 500s in 12 and 20 ga - the vent ribbed hunting config on both. I've been thinking about doing a HD conversion to the 12 for some time now as I can no longer hunt: 18" barrel, extended mag tube, synthetic stocks and ghost ring sights, etc.. I'd consider the same for the 20 gauge but so far I haven't been able to find buckshot for it so it'll remain as is.
