    What type of gun is this? S&W

    This is the pistol my dad just bought..No idea why but he is trying to figure out how to disassemble it, and it is quite tricky..

    Looks like a S&w 6906-9mm. Disassembly(going from memory) is pull slide to rear, push slide lock out from the other side, pull slide off-rest is as normal. The S&w website might have some info to help you. Model # should be on the left side of the weapon near trigger guard. I can see some #'s in the pic but not enough to make it out.

    I'm not a SW guy, but I think the model number is right above the trigger on the frame. You/he can download the manual from SW here:

    According to the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 3rd ed. you have a quite rare model. It is one of what are called the RSR Transitionals. They were produced for the big firearm distributor RSR and were between the second generation guns like the 669 and the third generation. If you can find a manual for a 669 disassembly should be the same as shown there.

    By the way "quite rare" means that fewer than 200 were made.

    Hmmm that is strange. My dad is a total gun noob and just bought it to have a pistol back in the day when his .380 fired when he dropped it..
