    Aquired my first "vintage" rifle

Today I finalized a deal with a local gun forum member to trade some ammo of mine for a rifle he has.

It is a 1931 Mannlicher Carcano in 6.5x52mm. It looks, from the photo, to be an 85% or higher gun. It has the original bolt and lower trigger group along with a newer replacement bolt and trigger group. It includes sling, three stripper clips, can of ammo and a bandolier for ammo.

I know these are relatively cheap rifles and seem to not be very popular. However, I got it for really very little ammo as a trade medium.

The gun is a shooter and the stock is in great condition.

That's 'a nice 'a rifle...didn't Lee Harvey Oswald have one?

    Sounds like a reasonable trade.

I have been in the hunt for the perfect Carcano rifle but seem to always get Out-Bid on gunbroker! SIGH...

Looks like a non-original sporter stock on yours. Regardless... Have fun shooting! =)

The stock could be original but I doubt it. To me it looks like they shortened the fore end and removed the barrel cover. Other than that, it looks like the original stock.

Carcano's are available from places other than GB. I see at least 4 or 5 at every gun show I go to. Of course, NO ONE would pay the price they're asking for them, but...

I am now attempting to research the particular model so I can return it to original. I have no idea what has been done to this rifle other than it seems someone has stuck some kind of fake flash hider on the muzzle.

It needs cleaning and reblueing and I can get that done for $100 locally.

Does anyone know where I can find vintage rifle parts?

Also, how can I positively identify the exact version of this rifle?

Haha! Supposedly he did have one but it was found to "not match" the rifle that was turned in as evidence by the FBI/CIA!

The owner who sold it to the guy I got it from told me his father owned it for a long time. He said it was "found laying in the grass on a small hill somewhere in Texas"

    Right!! (he was kidding me)
