For what it's worth, both the Romanians and Hungarians have built excellent versions of the original Russian models. Your deal sounds like a great deal to me.

It sounds like a good deal to me. Even if it's a cheap WASR, those were worth about $300 6 months ago. Hopefully it's not a single stack, that would be less desirable, but probably still worth what he's asking.

The more 30 rounds mags, the better.

The ammo is worth about over $100 on it's own, so I'd say it's a good deal. As long as the gun is in decent shape, I think you should go for it.

Yes, buy the AK and put off the Garand for a few months. And good on you for supporting the CMP.

When you get it, you'll need to do several things. First, replace the crappy Tapco furniture for some proper AK furniture, either of the wood or polymer variety. Second, ditch the red dot. Third, buy ammo and ammo like the won't be around tomorrow. If you plan to use this AK for anything serious (home defense, etc.), I'd invest in a sling and training, too.

I voted yes, but I would research a little (and would have made a post just like you did).

Good point, still, if you were considering an AK, sounds like a great start (rare opporunity).

However, if a Garand is something you must have, and the AK is just something you might like, then go for the Garand.

I have neither, but have never really wanted a Garand, and would want the AK, so it was easy to say yes. Then again, I have a .44 Mag revolver and .44 Mag Marlin desire that I would place before even a good deal on an AK.
