You want ammo? Show me your permit.

I was at a local shop the other day, to pick up a box of 9mm ammo. I like to use the smaller shops and not Wally Mart just for the heck of it. I always like to keep in touch with all my local FFLs so I rotate around if I need a box.

But for the first time I got asked for my pistol permit in order to buy some ammo. Has anyone else run into this? Is it something that just started?

I had no problem showing it to the guy, and he took a look handed over the box, no big deal. I just never had it happen before.

This side of the border I have to show my federally issued license every time I purchase ammo.

Never in over 55 years of purchasing my own ammunition have I been IDd when making a purchase.

Never...nor I would never return to a place that asked for my ID to buy ammo.

Well, my Father-in-law lives in IL, and he told me he has to show his FOID card to buy ammo everytime.

I don't know anyone who lives in NY. All the New Yorkers I know, the only reason I know them is because they moved to Florida, so then it got too crowded and I left. Now it's a blue state, so maybe soon you'll have to show ID there too, I don't know.

This is all very confusing to me.

I was at WW a couple of weeks ago and bought ammo, when the clerk grabbed the pistol ammo he said it came up on the cash register to ask for pistol permit. In over 30 years I don't recall ever being asked for any ID before.

Well, it seems that Idaho now wants to sell only to pistol permit holders. Things seems to be getting a little "big brotherish" if you ask me! Maybe it's time to start buying ammo where they don't check your id. I see it happening for me if this type policy is adopted by WM nationwide.
