How many of you shoot with both eyes open vs. dominant eye only? There are advantages to both eyes, but challenges as well. What's your method, why, and do you struggle with it? I'm "older" and the eyes aren't what they once were. I prefer both eyes, but I struggle with it and pretty much use the dominant eye now. Suggestions?
I used to shoot with one eye...but just started keeping both eyes open and now...both eyes automatically stay open...feel very natural.:22a:

Depends on the type of shooting, for shotguns and close in work with a rifle or pistol its both eyes. For precision work I tend to only use my dominant eye.
I had a heck of a time starting to use both eyes on pistol, but found that practice was really the only way to get used to it.

I use both eyes. Started doing it with iron sights. When I first used a scope, I closed my left eye. After getting used to using red dots and ACOGs with both eyes open, I started doing it with normal scopes also, which also resulted in much quicker acquisition. I always shoot both eyes open now.
I always use both eyes, most of my training is SD stuff. Both eyes let you see a wider area, and see more threats or innocents.
Both eyes, even with rifles. I've found that if I close my weak eye for a long time, my brain starts to ignore it, and it takes a few seconds for it "come back online" after I open it, so I just don't close it.

I get faster target acquisition with both eyes open, but go to my dominant eye when shot placement counts.

I'm just now trying to convert from dominate to both eyes. Any suggestions on technique? I keep getting double focus and I'm all over the place on the target.
Both. Again, the key is target acquisition and threat assessment. I find that both eyes are necessary for that. Plus IMAO in a SD situation you will not make significant use of your sites anyway.
When plinking targets, I often do the dominant eye only. Otherwise, it's both eyes open.Quote:

Wow, I am the odd man out I guess. Dominant eye for me. Looks like I need to start trying out both eyes.
