S&W Customer Service test
I discovered a crack on the frame of my Airweight J Frame. Called on Monday and talked to customer service. In the smail today was a UPS 2nd day air insured return label.
I asked that if the frame has to be replaced; could they make it a no internal lock frame. Hoping that works out.
So far so good, will keep posting updates

could they make it a no internal lock frame.
No, they will not.
It's a product liability issue.

Gotta ask...I have an angle that may work.

Ask yourself this question: Why doesn't S&W produce all of their revolvers without the internal lock?
Because their lawyers won't allow it.
The J frames w/o locks currently in production are all DAO Centennial models, which are less prone (not immune) to ADs due to their long double action trigger pulls.
No, S&W will never abandon the internal lock, nor will they remove or disable the lock on a gun sent in for service.

I have a S&W 637 (w/lock), I know of many others with something similar.
I never use the lock, nor has it ever caused problems.
I don't see the big deal with having (or not) that waste of 'presumed safety'.
I've never heard of it causing problems, although I've heard rumors...but that's it, rumors only.
I wouldn't worry about it.

Just a small suggestion for future reference;
You can ask them to EMAIL you the UPS label,it saves a few days.
Doing it that way,I have had an M&P back 7-8 days after the initial phone call.

Talked to the gunsmith working on my order today and a replacement frame has been made and guess what...no internal lock!
I'm pretty psyched!

I stand corrected.
I have to admit, I'm surprised they would do this.
Maybe S&W is listening more to their customers and less to their lawyers.
