    Question What would you choose?

Ok, so here is the question.

If you could only have 2 firearms, one pistol and one rifle, what caliber would you choose.

I don't want this to be a caliber war, or don't really care about what particular model of gun you would choose, just what caliber of each and why?

One thing I will give everyone is that they get a third gun and it is a .22 rifle, since I want to eliminate that as an option in the long gun discussion.

My choices would be .357 mag pistol and a 30.06 rifle. The reason is the large variety of loads and bullet weight for each of the platforms.

With the .357 I get to choose anywhere between a 110 gr and a 170 gr or so bullet and can go from a slow speed to a blazing hot 17-1800 fps round. It isn't so big that if I was going to use it for concealed carry I could or for hunting if needed.

Basically the 30.06 fits the same criteria. I can have a super fast light weight bullet that is good at multiple hundreds or depending on the shooter and platform out to even 1000 yds, or a big old heavy 200+ gr bullet that will pack one heck of a punch if I needed a brush gun.

Well those are my choices, what does everyone feel would be right for them?
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

Assuming they were the last two guns I'd ever own, then I'm in agreement with your choices. A wheelgun and good bolt action - .357 and a .30-06 makes a lot of sense to me too.

Hmm... 30.06, maybe 308 would be my rifle choice for the same reasons you talked about. Pistol... probably 45, but you make a good argument for 357.

My Glock .45 pistol and probably my S&W AR-15... choosing the AR because of the ability for high capacity.

.357mag for the handgun and lever action carbine also chambered in .357. I would hate to part with my 30.06 but if I could only have two I would look for the versatility in ammo.

Tough question. I like both 9mm and ,45 ACP in pistol and for rifle I like both .223 and .308 .

If I could only have one of each, I guess I would have to go with 1911 in .45 ACP for the pistol and Springfield M1A in .308 for the rifle. For the .22 rifle, I would probably go with the Ruger 10/22. These choices are based on a combination of versatility, reliability and what I shoot the best.

Asuming the world came to an end and I only had two choices, I would choose the two most rugged, unbreakable firearms I could. Therefore

The AK-47 7.62x39 and a Glock chambered in 9mm b/c of ammo being more common that .40

Agreed, but I would also consider a revolver/lever-action rifle combination in .44 Magnum.

I would go with a revolver in 44Mag and a leveraction in 44 Mag. Both which I already have and reload for.

From my safe? I would choose my 30-30, and a Glock in .45.
From my neighbor's safe? Well I'd start with a full-auto...
