    I don't have access to Colt's serials after 1978 right now but, I would bet your 1911 is of 1985 production. I have one from 1984 with the serial of SS0571X and one from 1987 at SS2884X.

    If you call Colt at 1-800-962-2658, they will be happy to tell you it's DOB.

    Hmmm..

    My Gold Cup, purchased new in 1983, has a SN 064xxN70.

    Did the Gold Cups have a different numbering sequence?

    Yes they did, the stainless Series 80 Mark IVs had the "SS" prefix on the serial number. Does your GC have the firing pin safety?

    No, its a Series 70.

    I kinda figured it was a 70 with that serial. It's probably an early '83 or a 1982 at that, the firing pin block was intro'd in 1983.
