the H&R 949 (nine shot) was the first handgun I bought (1974). Man, I loved that gun. Unfortunately, it was stolen in a home burgulary in 1986. I spent many, many hours plinking with it on the farm.

ruger, s&w, and high standard makes some of the best. i would look for a use one, but they are hard to find at a good price. might have to go new. what about a ruger mark 3? good auto, shoots well.

My favorite .22 revolver is my Ruger New Bearcat SS, it is the whole family's "darling' and comes out when the grandkids come by. Single six is also very good .22. Both are outstanding for plinking and rugged field guns for hiking and "sich".

If you want to use for training though, S&W 317 (eight shot) is hard to beat. I use my S&W 317 the most. it serves as my "Garage Range" (bullet trap) gun and is fired almost daily.
