This is a discussion on You're more likely to die falling off furniture than from a gun accident - Good read! within the General Firearm Discussion forums, part of the Related Topics category; http://www.missoulian.com/articles/2...n/opinion1.txt...
Yes, it's big news every time a vice president shoots someone. It also should be news when fatal firearm accidents nationwide are reduced by half.
The salient points:
"But, statistically, Americans have a 1 in 23 chance of dying by one accident or another - such as falls, wrecks, choking - but a 1 in 4,888 chance of dying in a firearm accident according to the National Safety Council. That's about the same chance of dying in a fall from bed, a chair or other furniture (1 in 4,745) and nearly one-eighth the odds of being killed by a vehicle while walking (1 in 612).
The point is, accidents happen, but firearm accidents not so much - at least, not as much as you've been led to believe."
Gun ''incidents'' as ever are lapped up by the mostly anti gun media - which blows them out of proportion. Nothing they seem to like more than front page sensationalism.
The figures tho are actually impressive when we compare with all other accident avenues. Try convincing most of the anti-gun sheep of that tho - difficult, seeing as logic has little effect.

That's it! It's time to clean out the house. The guns can stay, though.
I just locked up my couch.
Sure, sure, you guys go ahead and make your jokes now, but it'll be another matter when the antis find out about this and start hollerin' about furniture bans.
I had less back trouble when all I had for furniture was pillows on the floor. Time to go back to that and be safe.
