Buy it even if you don't want it. You could make at least $400 in profit on it in a week by listing it for sale on G-Broker.
i have a 1995 8 inch bright stainless python that i would not take 1600 for. just got a grand for a anaconda 8 inch stainless gun this month from a buddy that wanted it. it had less than 50 rounds thru it. i would say it is more about condition.
Thanks for all the absolutely correct advice! I went back to the shop the very same day I posted my message to buy the Python and it had been sold. The shop owner said that not even an hour after I left, someone walked in and bought it. The same collector had put a S&W 1978 27-2 on consignment so I, having learned my lesson, bought that one. Not the same as the python, but a nice shooter with some collector value as well. Learned my lesson the hard way.
