Python buy or not?
I am looking at a Colt Python stainless steel 6" barrel with a manufacturing date of 1995. Asking price is $1000. I don't neeeeeed the gun but want it for the fun of shooting it and perhaps as an investment. Any input on whether this is too much for this model and if the investment idea is not realistic?

don't know about the price, but at one time they were high. check the price on a google search. i got a safe full of guns that i "just wanted". in todays world guns are looking like gold, a good investment. ammo has all ready turned into gold.

If it is in good condition that is a fair price.
Go to gunbroker.com search Colt Python Stainless - There is a 6" Stainless on there right now that has a bid of $1,400 - I have seen the 6" get bids of $1,600
Also if you go on gunbroker and search completed auctions you can see what actual paid high bids amounts were on past auctions.

I'd buy it for that (if as QK mentioned, it's in good condition).

$1000 for a stainless Colt Python is not a bad price. While I am partial to the blue Pythons I would be hard pressed to pass up a stainless at that price provided it is in good shape.

You will be kicking yourself later if you don't grab it quickly!

I bought one in 1983 brand new for $671.00,they don't make them anymore so if it's in good condition I'd buy it

Definitely grab that one while you can!

It's a nice gun...but I would recommend that you spend your money on a more practical firearm, one that you would not mind putting through hell, and whatever ammo you can find.

I agree with United93 on this. I would pick up something else that I didn't have and or stock up on ammo.

Buy it only if you want something very enjoyable to shoot. Don't dare just stash it away unused.

If you've got the extra money to spend and it's in good condition, go for it. Sometimes, you just want to say you have one, no other reason is needed.

If I had the opportunity (and the cash) to buy a Python for $1000, I'd buy it in a flash. It's a great gun, and I've always wanted one. The prices that I've seen on them have been sky high, so the grand doesn't look that bad by comparison.

If it's in good condition $1000 is an excellent price.
