EveryTown, USA - -(AmmoLand.com)- In just 3 months Americans bought enough guns to outfit the entire Chinese and Indian army’s combined.
You also bought 1,529,635,000 rounds of ammunition in just the month of December 2008. Yeah that is right, that is Billion with a “B”.
This is an evaluation of overall firearms and ammunition purchases based on low end numbers per Federal NIC instacheck data base. The numbers presented are only PART of the overall numbers of arms and ammunition that have been sold. The actual numbers are much higher.

Well, that's a good start. Let's see if we can't do better in the months ahead.
Interesting stats.

Link produces no story. So is it real or not?
The statistic might be true if you consider a handgun part of the weaponry. Here are some stats I found:

Reaching Military Age Annually: 20,470,412 [2008]
Active Military Personnel: 2,255,000 [2008]
Active Military Reserve: 800,000 [2008]
Active Paramilitary Units: 3,969,000 [2008]

So what are we talking? 3 million guns. Maybe.

That number is hard to believe on guns.

It's actually much closer to 11 million Indians/Chinese on Active, Active Reserve, or Active Paramilitary duty. I would be surprised if private citizens in the US bought 11 million guns in 90 days...but they have been flying off the shelves.
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

Prior to the onset of WWII the Japanese considered invading the US. I believe it was Admiral Yammamoto , having studied in the US, who warned that there would be "a rifle behind every blade of grass."
The point must have sunk in as they never attempted to attack the mainland, though they could have done so.

Click on the TV link on the left of the page and a video and article comes up.
Madison, Federalist 46: "The highest number to which, according to the best computation, a standing army can be carried in any country, does not exceed one hundredth part of the whole number of souls; or one twenty-fifth part of the number able to bear arms. This proportion would not yield, in the United States, an army of more than twenty-five or thirty thousand men. To these would be opposed a militia amounting to near half a million of citizens with arms in their hands, officered by men chosen from among themselves, fighting for their common liberties, and united and conducted by governments possessing their affections and confidence. "
I'm happy that I was able to add to the numbers. That is what the 2A is all about, what tyrant would try to strip the rights of that many armed people, and what foreign nation in their right mind would think about attempting to occupy our soil? Other than Mexico, but that's another issue.
When you've got 'em by the balls, their hearts & minds will follow. Semper Fi.

Thsi is the reasoning as to why I was happily surprised to read the majority opinion from the 9th circuit last week in the Nordyke case. Not crazed about the decision but I did like the beef of the wording of the majority opinion.
