owning a handgun under 21 in colorado

Hey all, i was given a handgun as a early 21st birthday gift from my parents (all the paperwork is in order, bill of sale, etc etc) and i was speaking with another gun owner in a local walmart tonight, and he informed me that even owning or possessing a handgun under 21 years of age was illegal in colorado statute(sp?). i have friends under 21 that own multiple handguns and OC most of the time...

i will be 21 within the next month, but im concerned about this... should i leave the gun with my parents until i turn 21 (because of a law i havent seen? and ive been reading up consistently) or can possess the gun?

one more question, i have seen in colorado law that it isnt illegal to conceal a weapon in a personal vehicle in colorado? will that apply to me as well?
