My Wal-Mart No Longer Sells Firearms
Crazy but true... the Wal-Mart by my home stopped selling guns about two years ago. They used to stock a nicely discounted selection of rifles and shotguns. The manager said he is glad they stopped selling them, but had no idea why.
Any idea why Wal-Mart (certain ones) no longer sell firearms?

Sorry to say, but the manager should know why.
Did some other store open up close buy that would compete, Academy Sports or something close to it.
We have 3 here in town. I think two of them sell them and the brand new one doesn't. Now, it's got me curious, have to go check it out this weekend.

I am just curious why they would stop selling them. I wondered if it was a kind of "not worth the insurance" thing. That is why the local Sports Authority does not sell handguns.

The decision to sell or not sell firearms at any given Wal-Mart is decided by the store manager.
If the manager thinks he/she can turn a profit, he'll sell them. If not, he won't.
It's a simple business decision.

You're in Michigan...how further 'up north' can they go???

i have checked with five or six different wal marts in my area and two have long guns. i asked a manager from the store that was in the city and the manager stated they could not sale guns because of the store location to the inner city. he would not tell me if it was a wal mart rule or a city rule. the two with long guns were in the next county.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed that statement.

Wal-Mart drops gun sales in some stores - U.S. business- msnbc.com
Here is a link to MSNBC that talk about it. In this article it depends on the sales for that reported area of what will sell or won't.

Yeah I doubt it is a political thing. With Wally World it is all about making every square foot profitable, so if it isn't they will get rid of it.
Both Wal-Marts near me stock guns...though of course neither has ANY ammo right now other than shotgun.

I worked at a local outdoor store here in Cincinnati and the general manager was a regional manager of Walmart. Apparently one day a guy bought a gun from one of his stores and the associate didnt do his due diligence and the man went home and exicuted his family. Well nedless to say the estate sued. My manager went on the witness stand and was humiliated by the prosecutor and he decided to pulll all sales in his region. i am assuming this has to do with the overall decline of stores selling them now.
