lite rust pitting on my slide

My beloved Makarov has some small rust pitting on the slide. I keep it very lightly oiled to prevent any more rust, but was wondering if there is a good way to remove any rust spots. Being a daily carry gun, and not a collectors piece, it isn't worth a ton of money to do a restoration on but I'd like to clean it up and maybe re blue it. Any advice?

Get some of the finest grade (#0000) steel wool, apply a few drops of gun oil (any reputable brand will do) and lightly rub the pitted/rusted areas in a back & forth (not circular) motion.

    Works for me.

My dad taught me to use a pencil eraser for light rust. It has worked for me for 30 years.
