First off, I'm new to the 1911 world, never owned one, never shot one. I've got an opportunity to pick one up for $750, MINT condition, has <100 rounds down range, comes with 2 mags, papers, box, etc.
Is this a nice pistol? Good for a 1911 noob? I'm looking to find a gently used 1911 for $750 or less.

I have a Commander version of this gun and it is indeed a sweet shooter, I wouldn't part with it for anything. As I recall I didn't pay anything close to $750.00, more like $550.00 brand new. What you might try, as I did, is finding one on gunbroker.com. They have some really good deals.

Welllll unfortunately the S&W was bought before I had the chance to see it.
Soooooooo...I went to lunch today, took one of the guys that works for me to a local shop, looked around a bit, talked to the salesman, handled many 1911's and finally decided on a Kimber Custom Stainless Target II for right at LEO pricing. Not only is this my first 1911 but my first .45.
Can't wait to go to the range!!
