Defensive Pistol Match
I'm going to go to a defensive pistol match this weekend at a local range, I haven't been able to get anyone to return my emails, so I have no clue what to expect.
While I realize that since it's not a sanctioned event by some organization like IDPA or IPSC or whoever, that it could be pretty much anything.
But, still I ask, has anyone been to a defensive pistol match? If so, was it similar to IDPA, or different? What was a typical stage like? Anything else I need to know before going?
I'm going to go ready to shoot if they let me.
If it is anything like IDPA, 3 things will happen:
- the people are really nice
- you'll do worse than you expected but have a lot of fun
- you'll get hooked
Don't worry and enjoy.
That's kind of what I figure given what happened last weekend at the cowboy action match I went to at the same range.
At least for defensive pistol or IDPA I think I have the gear I need. Though another couple mags for my USPc would be nice.
CD, go for it. IPDA usually has a small round count on a course. Two mags should do. USPSA will have max round count of 32 on a single stage, so a 3-4 mags mim. Most will have some type of rules on mag holders and holsters. But almost all will welcome a new shooter and let them run what they” brung”. They should be glad to have you and help get you into the game. If you do not show up with something that you need, someone is going to let use their's. Be safe and have fun……
Just remember to shoot at your pace! Don't try to outshoot the superstars, just do your best. Remember for a first timer that " Slow is smooth and smooth is fast."
