Has anyone heard about this? A quick google images search shows it as a standard 340, only with a shiny finished cylinder, much more shiny than the titanium. Is this a common gun for sale? I've never seen one for sale on any site.

Don't depend on Google images. Sometimes the image that come up with the search is not what is intended. There may be multiple images on a page that have nothing to do with the search string.
Go to S&W's web site. All the 340's have a dark finish.
Except the 340SS and the 340SC
The 340SS was I think a limited run, but it still had a silver cylinder, actual SS cylinder slightly heavier but without the restriction of the titanium. It was replaced by the M&P 340

I personally carry a 340SC, which is silver with a grey cylinder.

The newer version is the M&P 340 stainless (black) cylinder.
