Did anyone see the shootout at the end of Southland last night? The one where the black female officer had a shootout with the gangsters. Was it just me or did that shotgun look completely uncomfortable, unweildy and difficult to shoot? Even for a make believe shootout. I've seen a lot of comments on here about shotguns with only a pistol grip (no stock) being not so easy to shoot. After this seen I can see why. I will be keepoing my stock in tact.
I saw it. While I don't approve of stockless shotguns, I was really happy that she went for a shotgun when she suspected intruders. For years I have been watching cops, FBI agents, CTU operatives, and many other characters who really ought to know better going into fights for which they had plenty of time to prepare armed only with a pistol. On several occasions I have actually yelled "get a long gun!" at the television screen. I was really happy to see someone finally actually do it.
It is utterly illogical to believe that passing laws to reduce gun violence will be successful when those who are commiting the gun violence do not obey the law.

Only tactical breachers should go with a stockless shotgun. As a fighting gun, it loses it's advantage without a stock. But hey, fight with what you got.
"Give this to, uh, Clemenza. I want reliable people, people who aren't going to be carried away. After all we're not murderers in spite of what this undertaker thinks."

Tell me about it. She goes out on the porch and the guys empty like 2-3 mags on her and not one comes close while she is popping off rounds herself. It was "Commando" or "Rambo" like in that not one round got close.
Scatterguns are a excellent tool. The pistol grip only 12guage is very awkward to shoot and painful on the wrist. A shotgun needs a stock to be at it's most effective in my opinion. The exception would be a tactical model with both the pistol grip and stock like my Benelli Super90 M1. Thats my home invasion choice.
You're missing the GPS range finder, siren, and camera...
To the OP...
I can't even imagine using my coach gun with a short/pistol grip...don't think I've ever seen one either.
I love the pistol grip -- it's really easy to maneuver in tight areas like a hallway, and using low recoil loads is really nothing on the wrist. Plus, the laser allows you to see your target actually where you'll be looking...
I had the stock, but took it off, I found it to be a bit cumbersome...
As far as what happened in the incident, I agree a pistol grip would be too difficult to aim and manage, as I imagine some serious buckshot was being used in that gun.

SHTF in the middle of the night, I want a Mossy 500 or Remington 870 with a full stock and an 18 1/2" barrel. Nothing else added. I don't even care if I can remember where the rest of my guns are, I've got what I need to stay alive.
