security six & speed six
Is there any difference in size of the security six vs the speed six? i know the grips are different but if i was to buy a holster made for a speed six would my security six fit it? google it and it appears to be the same gun just different hammer set up, trigger, and grips none of which to me would effect the fitting of a holster.

As far as I can recall the Speed Six and the Security Six are the same revolver. Speed Six is the fixed sight version and the Security Six sports adjustable sights.

Check with Gemini Customs in Frankfort Ky. (Gemini Customs LLC - Custom 1911 Firearms). They're the Mac Daddy Gurus when it comes to Speed/Security Sixes.

I had a Police Service Six (Speed Six with a square butt) that i let go years ago. It is the one firearm that I truly wish I never got rid of

They are essentially the same gune with the exception of the grips - the Speed Six has a round butt while Service Six is a square butt. I owned and carried a Speed Six in blue with a 2 3/4" barrel in my early days of LE as an off duty gun. These weapons were very well built and priced below the competition (S&W K frames). I'm not sure why they didn't catch on - probably because they didn't say Colt or S&W on the side! They were somewhat vindicated years later when their newer siblings, the GP-100 and SP-101 were approved and modified for NYPD in the NY-1 configuration.

It depends, they made a bull barrel version of the speed six, it may vary from the security six model.

every time I hear "Security Six" I feel the pain. I've kicked myself for several years for trading one off for a much inferior "replacement".
Whichever one you have... KEEP IT!

Security Six = squared-bottomed grip frame and adjustable sights
Service Six = squared-bottomed grip frame and fixed sights
Speed Six = rounded grip frame and fixed sights
