I am a NY resident and am about to apply for my C&R license. Can I buy C&R eligible pistols and have them shipped directly to me or will I still need to involve a NYS dealer for C&R eligible pistol purchases? Please advise, thank you.

C&R ???? What is that?
okee-dokee, I believe if the firearm is operable it must go through a FFL holder, so if you have a FFL then yes the weapons can be shipped directly to you.
If I were to order a firearm from out of state, I would have to have it shipped to a FFL holder, then jump through all of the hoops and paper work then acquire the firearm.
There's a ton of information (including a largish manual) about the rights & responsibilities of a C&R FFL Holder - I would goto the source and/or discuss with the ATF rather than get advice here :)

sorry, I have an NY 03... you may not have any hand gun shipped to you with out also having a NY pistol dealer permit...and they will need to be added to your handgun permit... fear not the ATF agent will fill you in when they interview you... Good luck..

Pistol Permits FAQs
Quote:
Q - Are antique handguns subject to the same laws as those applied to modern handguns?
The Penal Law definition of antique firearm is generally applied to muzzle loading black powder firearms, but also applies to pistols or revolvers "that use fixed cartridges which are no longer available in the ordinary channels of commercial trade".
Muzzle loading pistols or revolvers do not have to be registered on a pistol permit if the owner never intends to fire them.
If they are possessed in a loaded condition or are simply possessed simultaneously with the components necessary to make them fire, they must first be registered on a valid pistol permit.
Note: Should a manufacturer begin to produce ammunition for a pistol or revolver for which ammunition had not been available previously, that weapon no longer meets the criteria of an antique weapon and is required to be registered. A pistol or revolver, regardless of age, when possessed with the ammunition necessary to make it discharge, is required to be registered.
Looks like NY figured out how to take half the fun out of an O3 FFL....
