    No

Even if you could chamber a .38 (which ever type of 38 you are talking about) don't try it unless your health and life insurance are paid up

It is not safe to fire any round the firearm is not specifically chambered for. There are a number of potentially disasterous combinations that are "possible".

Having said that, I have seen 9mm accidently loaded into .40s and fired. The gun did not cycle, the round keyholed, and there was a significant amount of gas escape. You could probably risk serious injury and put whatever would fit in front of your firing pin into a gun and somehow get it to go off. You could also play with blasting caps, run with scissors, or taste the old white paint on the windowsill. Survival in the Arctic, yes. Hey, y'all watch this? Not so much. Don't do it.

Why would you even consider such a thing?

I have already decided not to experiment with mixing shell calibers, C-4, and dynamite.

    uuum lets see?

The base (at the shoulder) of a 38/357 is .440 inches?

the base of a 40 cal is .424 inches?

If it fits in the breech, it will probably go BANG ~~~~~ at least ONCE

After that, all bets are off

I think you will want to pay attention to the pressure difference, I think the 38/357 will have a huge difference over the 40. which will result in equipment damage ( not to mention bodily injury )

hey, if you want to try it, please report back when you get out of the hospital

I saw an old model Ruger Vaquero NIB last week that was a 38-40 WCF and it had an factory auxilary cylinder for the 40 S&W.

That may be where the confusion comes in
