I just bought a new Buckmark last week. I bought 2 extra mags at midway online that just showed up today. Going to shoot it monday. I have 2 bricks of Aquila HV hollow points. I hope it likes this ammo. I also got tired of spending 60-100$ everytime I go shooting. Skip the range visit a couple of times, and you have the money for a new, very nice Browning 22. Under $300 at Academy where is was regular $329. First gun I have ever bought from a Academy.
Be careful what you wish for. You just might get it ......

    Smith and Wesson Model 17.

Then again, I'm a wheelgun fan.

Honing the knives, Cleaning the longguns, Stocking up ammo.

as much as I love the Ruger Mark II (22/45 style), since squirrels and pests were mentioned in the original post, I too would suggest a revolver ... if you could find an older "three screw" Ruger Single Action Six, with both lr and magnum cylinders, you have a whole world of options available.... CB's, colibris, shorts, longs, long rifles, magnums, shot shells (great for close range vermin control), and whatever else might fit in the chamber. If the old model isn't available, the "new model" will do. Shooting around "the cabin" might require loads a bit lighter than you can cycle in a semi-auto.

Has anyone else tried an H&R 949 or 950? I introduced my wife to handguns by teaching her how to shoot with this 9 shot 22LR pistol. She has been very accurate with it, and so have I. we enjoy shooting it very much. just the loading and unloading is a PITA. easy to clean though.

I just realized this is my first post. howdy all.

My first handgun purchase on my 21st bday (1974) was a H&R949. I really loved that gun. It was stolen in a home burglary in 1986. Great gun for a "first" handgun.

Smith & Wesson Model 41 if you can find one 2nd hand. Money well spent, very accurate.

+1 for the Browning, or a High Standard if you can find one!
