    22 LR Barrel Suggestions?

I'm finding new joy in my old Ruger 10/22 and I've already got a nice super-light stock. Now I need a good target barrel and a scope that is good for plinking and target shooting at the range. Nothing crazy, not for competition, but accurate and not too expensive.

Is it worth 100+ to get an aftermarket barrel? Will a 'good' cheap scope (Barska 6-24X50 or Bushnell 4X30) be all I need to be pretty accurate?

    Any Suggestions?

Can't comment on the barrel but I have BSA scopes on both my 17 WMR and 22LR and are the best bang for the buck optics you can get in my opinion. Well built, clean optics and take shock very well, in the $60-$100 range.

Green Mountain Stainless fluted match chamber is good for the money if you ask me. I've been using mine for years in silhouette matches and just plain for fun plinking. If you have the target model that is.

What are the advantages to a fluted barrel?

for one, a fluted barrel exposes more surface area for cooling the barrel, two, you have the robustness of the heavier barrel with some of the weight removed (flutes) without sacrificing strength
