Thanks for the info...I thought 9mms seemed louder than most pistols...though I imagine model/load has some effect on dB levels.
My 5.7 is almost is pretty loud too...not quite like a 9mm though. But much more fun to shoot at night...big ol flame![]()

...the damage caused by one shot from a .357 magnum pistol, which can expose a shooter to 165 dB for 2msec, is equivalent to over 40 hours in a noisy workplace. Dr. Krammer, Ph.D., Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana...
Interesting...but I do think, that if you come at me with a knife in a WW parking lot yelling something about taking my (insert favorite adjectives here) wallet...you're never going to hear the sound.![]()

I can't imagine what they based this upon.... as I have 3 different .357's and believe me, how loud they are is distinctly different from one to the other , to the other.
I know that a SMAW is very loud, and I don't like being next to them when they fire. IIRC its something like 185 decibels, and one of the loudest things I have ever heard.
For ranges and whatnot, I wear earplugs, for combat zones/sd situations, I need to be able to hear things, and its not feasible.

the XD40SC with a 3 inch barrel is loud. but the .300 winchester puts it to shame.

165 dB .44 Magnum
Couldn't find the .50 db level. But it must be the winner in the barbeque class!!!

I've shot both a .357 magnum outdoors and a .40 s&w outdoors, the magnum left my ears ringing, the .40 didn't, however my adrenaline was running high which may account for this, which I beilieve would happen in a SD scenario.

Probably really around 155 or something.
