I have an XD .45 5" myself Haven't had the chance to let my father shoot it yet though. He only owns one auto at the moment that I'm aware of and it's a .25. Better than nothing, but a bit light for a defense round. I've always thought of him as a "revolver type" as that's what he mainly owns. Was surprised when he asked me about a Sigma, and since I wasn't sure, I decided to ask the people that were sure

I love my XD, by the way

I will wade in on this one late. I own a Sigma .40 and love it. I bought mine new in late '97 and have put countless rounds through it and I can't remember it having any jams or other issues. It did just recently start having a very high rate of light strike misfires (I would estimate around 40%). I called S&W customer service, they mailed me a return Fed-Ex label and they had the gun back in the mail to me about 7 working days after they received it. I haven't actually received the gun back yet, but I talked to a customer service person and they verified that it was fixed and back to Fed-Ex to be delivered to me.

For the money spent (-$300) I couldn't be happier. The trigger pull is sort of heavy, but once I had spend some range time with it, it became just part of how the gun fired and it didn't bother me at all. I wish they made a more compact one; I would buy it in a heartbeat.

    S&W M n P

My brother and nephew were looking at the sigma, M&P, & xd.

they both went with the M&P .nephew got the .40 standard.

Brother got the 9mm compact. Nephew wishes he got the compact also.
trigger was way smoother on this gun , as were most of the ergonomics.

Hope this is not to late
