MANISTEE -- A 10-year-old girl spent nearly 40 minutes in a locked gun safe before police helped crack the combination lock.
The girl was trapped in a 2 feet by 3 feet safe when officers arrived on the scene in Brethren Friday afternoon.
They unsuccessfully attempted to open the 50-year-old Meilink gun safe, but were able to drill an air hole for the girl.
A state trooper later reached a Mount Pleasant locksmith, who provided the combination. The girl was examined by paramedics before she was released to the care of her mother.

Either it was left open, or she's a little safe cracker! Either way, it's wrong!

Strange. Most safes require some type of action on the outside before the locking bolts move into place. ???

I am curious just how she managed to lock herself inside of the safe; I have never seen any type of small safe with a means of closing the door or locking it from inside.

I believe this little girl had some assistance locking herself inside a gun safe.
Sometimes on a clear day, I can see into the future with this spotting scope.

I have a safe at work that automatically locks when closed. The locking mechanism is spring loaded, and when closed it resets.

Kids have managed to lock themselves in everything from the trunk of a car to a freezer; a washing machine or dryer; a kitchen cabinet or a safe--as in this case.
When they are of a certain age you can't turn you back on them. Diapers are a pain, but at least when they are in diapers they can't get into much trouble.
After diapers, they aren't safe until they are 35 and married with kids of their own.

I'm 35 and married with kids of my own. Does this mean I can finally run through the house with scissors?

I'd like to know how she got in there in the first place, and then why no one had the combination.
