    Is there anyway to research the legal history of a firearm before purchase from a private seller?
    Half of me thinks,buy it.
    Half of me thinks,if you wonder about the seller,pass it up.
    It is pardonable to be defeated but never surprised.

    Get the serial number and have it checked...pretty easy.
    The last Blood Moon Tetrad for this millennium starts in April 2014 and ends in September 2015...according to NASA.

    About the only thing you can do is to have the police run the serial number to see if it comes back stolen.

    We used to be able to call the serial numbers in to the local PD, but now they want the gun in hand before they'll run them. So if you feel the seller is off, ask him to meet you at the nearest precinct. Let them know before you come walking in with a gun! If the gun is hot, he'll never meet you there. If he doesn't know it's hot, but it is from the past, you're out no money.
