    Ruger Speed Six

Hi everyone, I am new to this site so I hope I am posting this in the right spot. I purchased a Ruger Speed Six (357) on tuesday and have put about 100 rounds through it. It is a great gun, the only problem is the fixed sights. I am getting incredibally tight patterns the only problem is at 15 yards, my patterns are 2 inches high and about 3 inches to the left. How can I fix this? Can I take the sights off and put adjustables on, or do I have to take it to a gunsmith? This is my first handgun so I apologize if this is a dumb question.

Get a few different brands and weight ammo.
test the Ruger from a steady rest (pistol rest or bag of sand or shot).
If you find it is on target with one type of ammo great.
If it is off and still shooting left/right get it tuned by a smith.
High or low is easy but left/right a little more difficult.

+1 the Speed Six was/is a combat magnum, which should have fixed sights IMO.

I have a Ruger Police Service Six which is very similar to the Speed Six. It has a 4 inch barrel fixed sights the only difference was the grip shape. Mine shoots straight and is built like a battleship. Theres really not much that can be done with channel sights though except just get to know how it shoots. My problems in finding a good holster for it I would love to get something conforming like a fobus but its not common enough for them to make one.

When I was shooting I was resting on the tailgate of my truck to get a steady shoot. I know it is supposed to have fixed sights, but can you put adjustable on it? I don't want to have to always think aim low and to the right.

The short answer to putting adjustable sights on a fixed-sight sixgun is "no." The longer answer involves custom work that is NOT cheap. Look at a Security Six, and note there is extra metal in the top strap area, to accommodate the cuts necessary in which to mount a rear sight. It is much cheaper and more expedient to trade your Service Six for a Security Six.

There is an art to adjusting fixed-sight handguns. Horizontal correction is accomplished by turning the barrel. This is NOT a do-it-yourself project for most folks! Vertical correction is accomplished by filing the front sight, or, more simply, trying a different bullet weight in your ammo. Lighter bullets impact lower, all else being equal.

Edited to add: Welcome to the forum!

Of course, and I say this with all due respect, you may want an experienced sixgunner to test-fire your weapon, to make sure it is really the sights that are off. Even if you are accurate with other weapons, an unfamiliar weapon may hit to a different POI until you have sorted out its foibles. Something as simple as sunlight hitting the side of the front sight can cause a shooter to hold off to one side, so try shooting under conditions of neutral light.

High or low has more to do with bullet weight.. IMHO
