I would suggest a S&W 329, but dont think its in the budget. Maybe a Taurus Tracker. How bout a Ruger New model Blackhawk, single action. Or a Redhawk, double-action.

See the bold portion and think, RUGER.

Hey Airborne..how about a new SA Ruger SuperBlackhawk? I think you can get one for around you're price range. If you go the DA route(Ruger,Smith,Taurus)it probably will bust the budget. Just my $.02. Good Luck!!

I have no experience with them, but I have only heard good things about Taurus revolvers....

I was involved with the purchase of a Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 Mag a while back, Mighty fine gun.

    Single action or double action?

    SA--Ruger Super Blackhawk. Hands down.

DA--I'm partial to S&W (6)29's and Colt Anacondas. The Ruger Redhawk and Super Redhawk are good pistols...but I prefer the Colt or S&W.

Not a fan of Taurus. Used to have a Tracker; OK gun, but not anything to shout about.

    Edit--missed your budget part.

If you can stretch it to $600, you can find a used S&W fairly easy--matter of fact, there's a used 4" S&W 629-3 sitting at my local gun shop--was looking at it today.

Otherwise, I'd stick with a Super Blackhawk.

IF you look hard you can find a decent s&w model 29 around $500. Can't go wrong with any of the rugers either. I have a super black hawk and it is a stout brick of a hand cannon. Can't speak for Taurus, never had one.

Go for a 29/629...no need for copies.

One of my local shops has a Colt Anaconda.
Was in the case yesterday. Don't know anything about it other than "THESE GUYS DO NOT DEAL IN JUNK".

Ruger Redhawk is a very good option, I'd say. Model KRH-444 would be my suggestion.

You can find them on GunBroker for $450-600 fairly frequently. I've been watching a few auctions over the past few weeks and have just missed a couple at ~$475 or so. .44 magnum, 6 shot, built like a tank, smooth and reliable. With a gunsmith's simple attentions to smooth things up (as with anything), you can have one sweet gun.

+1 on the Blackhawk or any of the DA Smiths.

I picked up a used SuperRedhawk for about $450 before tax, at a local pawn shop a few months ago. I took me about a year to find one for that price...Lately, I have seen a lot of used Redhawks for under $450 here in Tucson.
