Gun Buy Back...

My city had a gun buy-back program today. They took BB guns and "replica" guns too so I spent the last month hitting up garage sales & flea markets for plastic look-a-likes that cost me about $1 each and then turned them in today for $10 each. I made $180 on some toy guns and another $50 on an old Marlin that had a missing mag tube and a broken trigger that I picked up at an estate sale for $3. All told I made a tidy $230 and made my city a lot safer. I feel good.

The lots were full of guys trolling for long gun deals before the people made it inside. One guy had a boot box filled with pistols but here in NY we can't buy pistols like that, only long guns. I asked the one cop I knew inside and he just shrugged and said that as long as the people weren't selling pistols that everything was ok. It was funny when the old cop who was doing the log-ins rolled his eyes at me and sent me to the money table with my coupons. I am going to start stocking up for next year. maybe I can clear a cool $1000 if I start collecting junk now.

Yeah, those gun buy backs are a PR stunt and nothing more. While the whole purpose is to get the illegal guns off the street and away from the bangers, what they usually get are grandpa's old guns or junk guns, etc.

True, he probably could have made more money doing that over the course of a month, but I think he was more looking to make a statement over the stupidity of these gun buyback programs.

I'll give kudos to the OP for taking advantage of such a stupid program and making some extra cash to boot.

While I agree that their gun buy back programs are rediculous and a waste of taxpayer monies, I can't condone your explotation of these fools for your own personal gain at the expense of the general public. If you live anywhere near where I believe you might (Western N. Y.), you're probably aware that most of the larger cities and not a few counties are bankrupt. And even if you don't live there, screwing over your neighbors for a few bucks isn't helping the situation.

My tax dollars just gave every kid in NY who has a parent on Welfare $200 for school clothes. That's $200 per kid, not per family. A family of five all under the age of 16 got $1000 cash with no restrictions on use. While buying ammo last night with my buy-back proceeds the Walmart employee told me they were selling flat screens like crazy and the ATM in the store was run dry with withdrawals. While you might feel righteous by the tone of your comment, I assure you that every week NYS gets a pound of my flesh to feed to their dysfunctional governmental monster. I don't have kids, I don't get welfare and I am a homeowner. I PAY PAY PAY all my live long day. Furthermore, I didn't establish the rules for the buy-back, I was simply abiding by them. Let me ask you something; If you had a toy that you kept meaning to throw away but then all of a sudden someone offered you $10 would you still toss it in the trash can? I wouldn't. I didn't.

I remember reading about a guy taking advantage of these buy backs around the Chicago area a while back. He took a bunch of old rusty and broken guns in and then used the money to buy 2 new guns. The new guns were given away as awards at a youth camp!!

Wow! I'm not being righteous, I just don't happen to believe that stealing from each other - we're all taxpayers after all - helps any situation. Whether everybody else does it or he did it for a good reason, dosen't make it right! Does it? You know what, don't even bother answering, You already have. You really believe any politician is aware of SIAFU's doings or that it will stop next years buyback? The buy back program isn't the issue here. However, the abuse of the buy back and other give away, handout, take it for nothing, I'm entittled to it, etc, programs, that are a waste of taxpayer money is the issue. It doesn't matter who the abuser might be or whether he works or not, or pays taxes or not or has a higher or lower standard of living. The abuser is the problem!

And we wake up in the morning, watch the news, scratch our heads and think, "What's wrong with America now-a-days?" Gee, I don't know!
