When you buy a Colt I will guarentee you that you won't be disapointed. When I was still green I also thought that you just payed for the name, the I shelled out the $$ and bought a XSE Commander, all I can say is that gun will be buried with me when its my time. Your not just paying for the name, your paying for a made in the USA quality firearm.
I also agree the double stacks, and the ones with rails have no appeal to me either.

    Whoa! Stop right there...

I've owned or still own 5 different Colt 1911's. The only one I didn't love with all my heart was the Colt Defender...and I still liked it a lot

I like my SA, would own a Colt , but don't like their sales policies. (AR sales specifically)

Ya know, over any custom 1911 I would choose a Colt, just beacuse there is nothing like looking down and seing Colt written on your slide, plus that prancing pony really makes my heart skip a beat,
When you think 1911 whats the first thing that pops into your head? Colt right, so why not keep it a Colt.
If I were to get a custom i would call the colt custom dept and tell them what I want, as I really get alot out of seeing the colt and the pony on my pistol. I believe my next 1911 will be a special combat Government or a Gunsite, but it will defently be a Colt.
To be honest I even have a prefrence to Colt wheel guns. MY Trooper 357 shoots like a dream, and been wanting a Dick special for some time.

Colt - Series 70 Gold Cup to be exact. It belongs to Dad - not mine. But I get to fondle and shoot it all I want. I like the Kimbers and Springfields too.

If I ever have another custom done, I'll use a Colt as the base gun again.

    Wayne,

    When you say;
I am on the lookout for a Colt Sistema. I know that many Colt fans call it a basterdized Colt, but hey, it's a "Colt" that I can afford.
Do you actually mean a Colt Sistema or a Sistema Modelo 1927? The first 10,000 Sistema's were Colt made in Hartford and bring more than a current Colt (depending on condition of course).

I think that Colts are basically name driven for the most part but then again, that may just be a comment driven by the inability to afford one but I've heard just as good reports from lower end 1911's like the Kimber and the Springfields.
To some extent possibly, but if you tear them down and lay all the parts side by side, you will see a difference.

Of the 1911s I've owned I had the best consistent performance with Colt, though my current SA Mil-Spec is coming along surprisingly well - best of the three SAs I've owned. If I had the money I'd like to try the higher end semi customs like a Wilson SDS, an Ed Brown Cobra or Executive Carry, maybe even that upstart Nighthawk . Ah, if I were only rich. Honestly unsure what my next purchase will be, possibly a Browning HP or a second Mil-Spec or even a 10mm just for kicks.

Even though it's now a "Safe Queen" my Remington Rand (manufactered in 1943) had ridden my hip for a good many years. She (Betsy) was also my first competition gun and my first dedicated home defense gun. She's what I taught my wife to shoot when we were first married. In fact, my wife's insistent demand to rid herself of that dinky little Beretta M84 .380 and take control of Betsy is what led me to trade the M84 in on a Colt 45 Commander with tritium night sights for the wife. She's been happy ever since.

    Ex,

Have you ever gotten around to taking any pics of the Rem-Rand? Would love to see it.
