    WalMart Guns and Ammo Removal

I recently wrote to The "Customer Relations", about why they are discontinuing the sales of Guns and Ammunition,....Feel free to comment!!! or relay your concern's....Here is there reply:....

    Thank you for your message.

At Wal-Mart, we strive to provide merchandise to meet consumer demand in a given community.

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. has made a business decision to remove firearms from approximately 1000 locations within the U.S. beginning March 6, 2006. This decision is based on diminished customer relevancy and demand within multiple markets.

As with all merchandise decisions that we make our decision to remove guns from Wal-Mart locations is simply based on the lack of customer demand for firearms in a given community. We will now be able to utilize our resources more effectively to provide customers with the merchandise that they wish to purchase -- and to discontinue merchandise that they show no interest in.

    Thank you,

    Customer Relations

Well firearms sales may have diminished in some stores but what about ammo? Seems like a good many folks have reported their local WallyWorld as one doing this and yet it was somewhere they went for ammo.

Plus - whatever happened also to ''providing a service''? Some aspects of store selling can be ''loss leader'' in order to attract folks to other things - why not let ammo sales at least continue as ''a service''.

Bottom line of course - if insufficient sales then the bosses say it's time to stop. Plus <cynic hat> to possible trend toward appeasing anti's! Seems like the two or three I might go to round here are still providing the guns and ammo.

I get a value box of .22 ammo about every week I visit wally-world, just incase they decide to quit selling and it won't interrupt my practice sessions.
As for arms, I have never purchased from wally-world. At the moment, they are the largest arms retailer in the world. When they quit selling, its gonna take alot of stress off the small dealers making a living at it. I'd rather buy from them anyhow...

I don't see too many people looking at guns in my local WW. I do buy ammo there sometimes though, they have the cheaper Winchester at good prices. Their selection is limited though and the staff is not knowledgeable at all. I have other options so it's not that big a deal to me.

I do buy some ammo from them but I do prefer to deal with my local gun store, even for ammo.

P95Carry and Artz.....I couldn't agree with you more. About the ammo....I just don't know...I included that in my inquiry, But they did,'t mention it. I truly understand about the stress removed from the smaller independant gun sellers, and I'm all for that. Just thought that it was interesting to say the least. Competition is of course, what regulates the prices, but I wonder if "Sales" or "Politics", guide this decision? maybe I will consider upgrading to a progressive loader instead of my single stage.........

There's never an asssociate within 50 feet of the gun counter when I go. Even if I see one and flag them down, they run away like cockroaches. A month or so ago, I asked/paged someone 3 times (twice from a manager) before I got someone to sell me a pocket knife.

I was told by the guy in sporting goods at my local wally world. That the stores that didnt do very well will stop the guns and ammo sales. But the store in my area will continue to sell guns and ammo. Because they sell very well in this store. Just the ones that sales have dropped.

Why is this such a big deal to everyone? STOP BUYING FROM WALMART! They are sending American jobs to Red China. It doesn't cost that much more to support your local gun shop. Check the net, I can find pretty good deals for ammo by the case there too. As good or better than Wally World.

    Just stop buying from them!

I know how you feel havegunjoe, but that wheel won't stop. It started 20 plus years ago south of China----wayyyy south.

But there are some things I just can't bring myself to do, and frequent Wally World is one of them. I know I am just spitting into the wind, or should I say hurricane, but somebody has to take a stand. It just seems that everyone is in a panic because they decided to stop selling guns in some stores and I repeat, who cares? Good! One less reason to shop there.

Sorry for the rant but I see too much being given to the Red Chinese all in the name of saving a buck, and it makes me mad. By the way, have you noticed how they are no longer refered to as the Red or Communist Chinese any more? The media has mainstreamed them.

I am leaning your way too Joe - my visits there are rare these days but have to say it was convenient to pick up WWB on the odd occasion I did go.

No biggie if they quit that here - and as someone else said, a plus side actually would be that local businesses re guns and sporting goods in general probably would benefit from their cessation of firearms stuff - and that is not a bad thing.

Could well be Wally World will soon be off my list altogether and I'll add to that Lowes too, after the total farce re their only taking checks numbered over 300 .. sheesh.

Might be p'ing in the wind but - enough folks taking business away - it'll have an effect even if small.
