Both will make the shoulder sore and the deer fall down
There is something about firing 4,200 thirty millimeter rounds/min that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Marlin 336 in 35 Remington. I haven't had to clean it too much this season, but there are still a few days left.

Remington 760 Gamemaster in 30-06 for me, but I mostly hunt now with a Remington 11-87 12 gauge with a slug barrel and red dot sights because my property is now completely wooded and any shot would be 50 yards or less. I've taken three deer with the Federal sabot slugs I shoot, and have not had to track one yet.

A Ruger #3, .375 Winchester. Most shots around here are well under 150 yards, and at that ranger this rifle drops them like a lightning bolt.

Northern MI where rifles are legal I shoot a Remington 760 in .30'06. Dad shoots an old Remington woodsmaster in .300 savage. His backup is a Savage lever gun in .300 savage. My backup gun would be either a woodsmaster in .35 remington, or another 7600 in .270.

Down here it's an inline .50 cal muzzleloader for long shots, or a 20 guage Ithica with a deerslayer barrell.

Haven't hunted deer in awhile, but when I did I would use either

    1. Universal Arms M1 Carbine with 30 round magazine! (Just in case I am attacked by a herd of them) or

    2. Chilean Model 1895 Mauser bolt action in 7x57mm. Sucker only holds 5 rounds so I take my S&W model 19 .357 combat magnum as a back up.

Just kidding about the 30 round mag, I use the cheesy 4 round plastic mag that came with the M1. The Model 19 .357 stays home too.

I haven't hunted in years, not since leaving MI about 9 years ago.
During those years though, I always used a Marlin 30-30. I've bought and sold several 30-30's, but recently purchased my Marlin 336SS in 30-30.

Actually, I didn't want a scope on my 30-30 either, but I did put a fiber optic front site to help "eyes in their 60's"...
