Get one big enough to devote a section to important documents.
Passports, deeds, birth certificates etc. Great place to stow some valuables other than guns.

Mine has one section that a smaller fireproof (resistant) safe fits into.

I tried to time my purchase so it fell 2 days before the robbery. You may want to get one sooner, but I would not go much later then that.
Due to it's content the posting above should not have been read by anyone.

My wife had a fireproof document safe for years and it fits in one of my gun safe shelves. The gun safe is water and fire rated, but that gives an added level of protection for important documents. Good to put jewelry or any other valuables in as well.

    I love gun safes.

I seriously just like to ogle them.

At 18, and still living with my dad, I can't exactly buy my own.

    But there awesome.

Aside from safeguarding your weapons, you have to consider any liabilities for having your stolen weapons used in the commission of a crime or worse yet, used to kill an innocent person. In such an unfortunate event, anyone with any kind of assets will be sued. Do everything in your power to safeguard your weapons. Get a good safe now.

In my case, obviously my buying the safe was known to the criminals in the community, 'cause they haven't been back since. I knew it was the right thing to do. I just knew it!

    Advice:

When you do buy a safe, buy one that is larger than you need.
Believe me ... you will fill it.

Yes, two safes - four kids. I figure for every two kids, I get a safe.

Hey. What is that in American? With the current economy, the conversion rate between Kiwi KG and Yankee pounds is probably bad for us(US).

Not having children at home any longer, my main worry is theft. But the gun safe would take the place of my gun cabinet which is in my den on the second floor. Any thoughts about weight and a second floor "installation"?

I was amazed when I finally decided to buy a safe. I waited way too long. I almost filled up the safe with the guns I already had leaving me little room for future prospects.
