Before our local farms, forests and fields were paved over and covered by asphalt and concrete, for post-big-war plats and plazas, my pals and I used to shoot our/our dads' .22; walking along with them along creeks and rivers. We NEVER thought about shooting at dogs or cats or cars or cows or barns or houses or people. We shot at cans or trash or birds. Now, we can only shoot at target ranges around here. As a Civil War [Union] reenactor, I still like to teach the little ones how to safely have fun with guns. But I have to start at the very basics, even with older folks, who have never shot or never shot a lot, emphasizing that our black-powder fun guns are not toys, even for us big girls and boys.

In a recent shipment I received a "free" pocket knife (actually an "oriental"- version Swiss Army)....Not a bad little thing, but I don't need another knife. Without a second thought, I suggested to my wife, an elementary school teacher, that she give it to one of the kids as a "reward"..... winning the spelling bee, science project, math test, etc.
"YOU WANNA HAVE ME ARRESTED....BRINGING A KNIFE TO SCHOOL?????"
Jeez......forgot.....this is "today".....let's make sure the kids use rubber utensils in the cafeteria, while we're at it......!!

We also learned what "pot metal" was all about an an early age.

IIRC the red rolled caps and the guns that fed them often was not real reliable and a 9 year old cowboy would find himself with the hammer continually fallling on a misfeed (early days FTF).
Turn the election's in 2014 to a "2A Revolution". It will serve as a 1994 refresher not to "infringe" on our Second Amendment. We know who they are now.........SEND 'EM HOME. Our success in this will be proportional to how hard we work to make it happen.
