Anyone else have any thoughts on this.
Well Mrm; I think your about the only one that doesn't like the name partner, but hey it's cool in my book partner. I respect your right to call them whatever you want and I will respect your view and when talking with you, I will refer to them however you like.

I would like to make a comment about your analogy on the pencil comment though. After committing most of my life to the MA/SDs world. A pencil is not a weapon, it is an instrument meant for writing that may be used as a weapon when all else fails and you are in a situation that requires the use of whatever is available, same goes for keys, pens, sticks, pipes. Firearms are Weapons in my view and they were specifically designed for one purpose.

Other than to not scare the ignorant the word weapon doesn't bother me a bit. Weapon, gun, firearm, rifle, handgun, pistol or whatever it's all the same.

Put me in the "it is what it is" column...
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

Whether you want to refer to your gun as a gun or a weapon is irrelevant to me actually. It is your choice. Now if you want your knickers knotted about terminology that is your choice too. My guns have names...one of them is Pelosi, the skinny one I called Reid and the big BS one is called Barry. Now do you have any problem with that?

I really wish people would stop calling themselves "sheepdogs", but what can you do?

All firearms are weapons, but not all weapons are firearms. One is correct calling them either, but I'm not going to let that fact that the use of the word "weapon" might scare someone to keep me from using the correct terminology. All we are doing by pandering to the people that are frightened of words is encouraging them.

Firearms are deadly weapons, deal with it.

Many of us have military backgrounds. In the military it's called a weapon, or in the case of handguns it might be called a "sidearm" as well.
