Actually by saying that your pencil is a weapon just because it could be used to inflict injury upon someone.
Directly means that your Gun is a weapon for the same reason your pencil is a weapon.
Therefore we can conclude that a gun is a weapon.
You can't call a pencil a weapon and then argue that a gun is not.
Exodus 22:2 "If a thief is caught breaking in and is struck so that he dies, the defender is not guilty of bloodshed"
If you stabbed someone with a pencil, would you be charged with assault with a deadly weapon? What if you shot someone with a gun?

I don't believe this thread, guess that DI was wrong 40+ years ago, he called a rifle a weapon.

I am more disturbed by people who refer to them as "toys" ... as in the "look at my new toy" threads I've seen posted.
Every time I see one, I want to respond, GUNS ARE NOT TOYS...
Maybe it should be my sig line...
I was recently corrected (nicely) by two NRA instructors that I shouldn't call my guns "weapons". I'm retired military and would get in trouble for refering to my m16 as a gun. It was drilled into me that this was my "weapon" and that's all I ever hear it refered to. So for me it's a habit.
Personally I believe that's exactly what it is. But gun, rifle, carbine, all are okay as long as we're not being sucked into being politically correct.
I do think we have to at least consider perception. Consider the perception surrounding "assualt" weapons when that term is almost always inappropriately applied to simple semi auto arms.
It is a problem but I'm not sure we're helping by avoiding the use of "weapon".
I think I would have had to (nicely) tell them to stuff it.

It really does not matter if you assault someone with a pencil, rock or gun even in what might be self defense. In the eyes of the law you are still going to be subject to a criminal investigation. It is up to our justice system to decide the outcome.

How about firearms ? handguns? pistols, revolvers. Weapons is a term used in the military in basic training and all the time you are in the services as it's their acronym.
