I really wish people would stop referring to their weapons as guns

Guns are naval artillery, not little plinkers that you stuff in your pocket.

My guns are weapons. They're firearms at the range, but weapons off the range.
They are tools meant to defend me from the forces of evil. That makes them a weapons, does it not?

As a Federally licensed fire arms dealer I am required to understand state and federal laws.

Every state firearms statute defines firearms as Weapons

My home state, Missouri Defines firearms and explosives as weapons,as does all other 49 states.

True your weapon may be your gun if you have an 1863 Colt. You will not however find this term (the word Gun) in any legal definition of state law nor will you find it in military basic training.
Your weapon is not to be called a gun in the modern military unless you want to clean toilets with a tooth brush.
The word GUN is however is frequently used to describe a firearm. This includes my website, news press, etc.
So I agree with you, but get over it.

Most Handguns, pistols, revolvers, rifles and shotguns are going to be called guns.

Notice my last sentense and see if you see anything that seems out of place. Guns is the term most use, like it or not.
If you understand, things are just as they are... If you do not understand, things are just as they are....
