Do you think the threat of citizens carrying weapons deters criminals?

Even if it didn't deter criminals, I want the option to be able to defend myself with something of substance.
Unfortunately, this is a messed up poll. You can vote over and over again. Apparently it doesn't cookie your computer. The 250+ no votes could all be from one person.

It's Ks City, the counties in that whole area of NE Kansas are some of the most liberal in Kansas . None of the rest of Kansas is that way.

Ok - I started reading the replies to the thread and it got me thinking (there goes the system engineer in me again). I looked up the recurrence rate of incarceration (over 50%). If it doesn't deter a criminal the first time, it definitely will the next (the criminal won't be around to perform the crime). Therefore, I contend that the MINIMUM reduction of crime will be at least 33% (removes 50% of the additional persons available to perform the crime).
Recidivism: Recidivism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"The effect of incarceration on former prisoners has been a very common topic of discussion for many years. In most cases, it is believed that many prisoners will find themselves right back where they started, in jail. In the United States, 68% percent of males and 58% of females are rearrested, and 53% and 39% respectively are re-incarcerated (2003)."

I voted yes. I don't think it deters criminals, but it does reduce their numbers. Fewer criminals = less crime.

Hard to believe it's that close, reading the comments, I don't think I read 1 negative comment, so not really sure the voting is factual.

I view a firearm for self-defense like a spare tire on your car---you DON"T want to use it but, when you NEED it, its good to have around!
