Odd request -- need to shoot these:

I know this is a totally weirdo request, but it's for a dear friend I've known for more than half my life now. And I figured I'd give it a shot:

My friend needs to complete their thesis by firing the following firearms: a Thompson SMG, an M1 Garand, and an Army Colt 45. can anyone help? PLEASE?

They live in Northern VA, but would be willing to drive. If you can help, would you please PM me, or drop me an email and I will put you guys in touch? Thanks :)

Sorry, I can't help either, but I've got to ask, what is the thesis? And how do I get into that school?

Just for the record, that is M1 Garand, not M1 Grand.

They were quite popular and available inexpensively in the years immediately after WWII. I've no idea what the market price for them is today.

Whoops! Sorry. And yes, GARAND. I cut-and-pasted Aaron's request from his email. (And then emailed him to correct it.)

His thesis is about his Uncle Harry, who was killed in WWII, and he's a MICA grad student.

    Gunny Bunny, I'll ask him!

    Road trip to Canada, EH?

I live in West Virginia and have a Univeral M1 Carbine. Don't have a Tommy Gun, M1 Garand or Colt .45 ACP so I'm no help.

In reasonable shape, around $1000 (or more).
Sorry, can't help with the weapons. Would if I could.

All your friend needs to do is find a range where they have rentals and go ASK if they have what your friend needs for his thesis. If they don't ASK THEM if they know of anyone who would be willing to help out.

The range RSO should know of someone or a few someones who might be willing to help out who are local and who have the weapons being asked for. PLUS you get the benefit of being at a range with all the safety that comes with that (although in some places that ain't much to speak at).

If you still come up dry, see if you can find a local forum to ask at rather than an international one like this. More local = better chance of success.

I shot a Thompson SMG at the Mustang Range Machine Gun Shoot in Fernley NV. Mustang Range FTC

I assume that the .45 you refer to is a 1911, not a revolver. That should be trivial to find.

The NRA museum and headquarters is in Northern Virginia.. around fairfax. I would pay them a visit and see if there is someone that could give you a hand, or knows someone that has a local collection that would be willing to help.

    Oakton area in NoVA.

And it's PRO. I would never ask for an anti. His uncle Harry was killed in WWII and so it's something to do with going through the experiences Harry went through, which include parachuting and firing these three firearms.

Thanks for all the help, everyone! I passed everything along to Aaron.
