    Digging around found old receipts

I was digging around for my social security card or passport so I can prove I'm eligible to work for UPS as a federal contractor or something otherwise the federal government would fire me...go figure, and I found receipts for some of the guns my dad and I own. Some of which were bought before I was born. Thought some of you would find the prices interesting :) Prices are before tax since other items were on the receipts

    27 Dec 1986
$69.95 for Jennings J220 say what you want but this one is reliable and works without problems

    30 Jan 1987
Ruger Black Hawk .44 mag (I think this is my .44 super blackhawk bisley model) $280.00

    21 Jan 1987
    Marlin 1994 C .357 magnum $230.00

    15 Mar 1980
Ruger Service Six (securty six? i can never remember which, basically the same thing anyway) 2 3/7 barrel $140.00

    23 Aug 1980
    Ruger Service Six 4" $169.00

    9 Feb 1988
    Marlin 336CS 30-30 (used) $159.95

and then if i remember right the Ruger p95DC was bought used sometime in 1998 for $250 from a pawn shop down the road.

The .38 spl reloads (receipt doesn't specify quantity) were $3.25 or maybe $8.25 can't tell with the handwriting. I think a box of Winchester 3030 was $13.50 each or I assume that's what the receipt codes mean .

Only one that is specifically stated as used is the 30-30 so I'd have to assume the rest were new.

Now if only I could get another Snub nose Service Six for that price I'd be set

My first new gun was a 12ga Topper with a 36 in barrel $19.99. Second new purchase was a Savage/Springfield/Stevens 12ga pump (all three brands stamped on gun at different places) $69.95. Ten years ago I paid $50.00 for a used replacement stock for the pump/

Don't forget the dollar was worth more at that time too.

What $230.00 would buy back in the mid 1980's you would probably have to spend close to $400.00 for today. Gasoline was only about $.98 a gallon and the median household income was under $25,000.00 a year. A stamp cost $.22 and the average price for a new home was about $112,000.

There is also "supply and demand" to be considered in today's prices too.

Those prices look good compared to today's but we worked for a lot less money (and it went farther) back then as opposed to today's cost of living.
