I was watching this video last night and I began to wonder since the serial numbers for these babies started low... does anyone know where the first Garand is? Is it on display somewhere, is it privately owned, or did it just get lost in history?
I don't know where it now is but the first actual production M1 was supposed to have been serial number 81 and was made in early 1937. The previous 80 rifles were experimental tool room samples, featuring various design and manufacturing revisions and modifications.
I saw that on the History Channel not long ago, but long enough not to remember. For some reason I believe it remained in Canada, since the inventor Mr. Garand is Canadian. Hopefully someone knows its whereabouts.
May we never forget those in uniform who protect us night and day in lands far away. And those in all wars who paid the supreme sacrifice in defense of our country. May God Bless our Troops and First Responders.

I hope not, they'll probably drill holes in it, and crush it, as it is an evil semi auto.
What? I would have rather seen it displayed at West Point, the National D Day Museum or somewhere related to the war. Not the NPS. Thanks for the correct answer.
