Ithaca 1911
I have the opportunity to purchase an Ithaca 1911 S/N traces back to 1945 with all Military proofs and markings for $800. Someone told me that the magazine should have a matching number, I do not believe this to be true on this particular weapon (I know it matters with Lugers and such). Can anyone confirm or deny this? Just looking for validation here. Thanks.

$800 is good price pending on the condition.
The mags will have markings for the manufacturer of the mags, but not a matching serial number. M1911.org has tons of info on the USGI stuff, that's where I found all my answers/did my research for my '44 Ithaca.

JD is correct. I'd take a ton of pic's and post them on 1911.org, $800 is a great price for a '45 Ithaca in original configuration (original parts), and in "decent" condition
Get the U.N. out of the U.S.

That's a great price if original, even if the original finish is less than perfect.
Nope, no matching numbers on the magazines. You are correct.
If you get the pistol, please post some photos!

If it's original, it sounds like a deal. Here's another one for sale in my neck of the woods..............

I appreciate all the input. Another thing that is troubling me is the finish, it looks too good in my opinion, though on close inspection the finish looks like a very nice patina. Any tricks on how to detect a refinishing. It appears parkerized which is correct, perhaps I am just being paranoid but "if it seems too good to be true".
I'd prefer to approach the sale cautiously/ prepared.

Well, darn (heavier language is warranted), I went into the store today and it already sold. Win some lose some I guess.
